March 2010 The previous indexes were maintained by Statistics NZ, and were part of their monitoring of the Producer Price Index (PPI). However they have now stopped updating these series. The replacement index components are more general, relating to all businesses. Generally, on-farm expenses were rising much faster than overall producer input costs. Operating cost rises had been less for dairy farms - but sheep and beef farms have seen costs growing at a much faster rate.
